Administration to Take Family Support Campaign on the Road
First Lady Michelle Obama and the vice president’s wife Jill Biden plan to travel the country to urge Americans to support service members and their families. The campaign, which will target businesses and nonprofits in addition to individuals, will focus on employment opportunities, education, wellness and public awareness, the two said during a White House announcement Monday. The effort follows the unveiling last month by President Obama of a “whole-of-government” initiative to tackle an array of challenges facing troops and their families.
Goals for the campaign include making companies aware of the unique employment issues facing military spouses, and working with education groups to better accommodate military children, according to American Forces Press Service.
