Armed Services Panels to Mark up Authorization Bill Shortly
- April 9, 2012
The subcommittees of the House Armed Services Committee will begin marking up sections of the fiscal 2013 defense authorization bill on April 26, with the full committee taking up the measure May 9, reports CQ Today.
The Readiness Subcommittee’s markup is scheduled for April 27. Congressional aides have indicated the legislation will steer clear of controversial measures given the looming general election, according to the publication.
No one is expecting the bill to authorize a new BRAC round in 2013, but it could set the stage for a future round, perhaps by requiring an assessment of excess capacity across the department.
