Budget Compromise Unkind to Presidio Trust
It could have been worse, but the $8 million cut the spending deal keeping the government running for the remainder of fiscal 2011 takes out of the Presidio Trust’s budget still is significant.
In February, House Republicans voted to eliminate federal funding for the Presidio Trust as part of the chamber’s proposal to fund the government for the current fiscal year. The trust, the nonprofit established by Congress to administer the Presidio of San Francisco after it was shuttered in 1994, had been slated to receive $15 million in 2011. The trust had been on course to be financially self-sufficient by FY 2013.
Some considered the move a swipe at House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). The amendment passed in February that would have cut all funding for the Presidio Trust was sponsored by two Republican newcomers.
