Facing the possibility of multiple BRAC rounds, officials in Beaufort, S.C., are looking at whether providing municipal services to Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort would help the installation save money and become more competitive.

At a city council work session on Tuesday, City Manager Scott Dadson described the partnership agreements the city of Monterey, Calif., has with the Presidio of Monterey and the Naval Postgraduate School to provide services such as facility maintenance, reported the Beaufort Gazette.

The Presidio has cut its facility support costs by 23 percent since it started partnering with the city more than 10 years ago.

“If you think about it, there’s got to be some ways that we can work together to lighten his load,” Mayor Billy Keyserling said of the air station’s commanding officer.
