College outside Ft. Benning Earns Spot on ‘Military Friendly Schools’ List
Columbus State University was named to G.I. Jobs magazine’s 2012 list of “Military Friendly Schools” for the second straight year, a testament to the university’s commitment to supporting nearby Fort Benning.
“We are trying not only to help ourselves, but to help the state,” Mark Ridley, director of military affairs at the school’s Fort Benning Center, told the Ledger-Enquirer. “At the end of the day, we want Georgia to be a total military family state.”
The university recently has expanded its veterans affairs office and added classroom space at a satellite facility near the post. It also offers academic credit toward two master’s degree programs for an Army course for maneuver officers.
