County Seeks Florida Grants to Enhance Whiting Field’s Mission
The Santa Rosa County Commission approved Thursday two Florida Defense Infrastructure Grant applications to support missions at Naval Air Station Whiting Field.
One grant would provide $200,000 so the county could acquire property next to the air station needed to prevent incompatible development. The other grant, also for $200,000, would pay for a fence around Whiting Aviation Park, a 267-acre industrial park next to the base. The Navy told the county that an improved fence line is needed to meet its security requirements.
The county should find out if the state has approved the applications by October, reported the Pensacola News Journal.
