Fort Meade will gain a total of 2,800 workers due to the growth of U.S. Cyber Command headquarters and the services’ own cyber activities, according to new data released by Anne Arundel County, Md.

About 1,000 workers are expected by the end of fall 2012 at the installation located between Baltimore and Washington, and an additional 1,800 are expected by the end of 2016, reported Severn Patch.

Since 2005, Meade’s workforce has grown from 34,000 to 56,000 workers, with only 5,800 of those positions resulting from BRAC. The Howard County BRAC office predicts the installation’s workforce will approach 65,000 by 2015 due to its “threat-driven mission,” one which includes technology and information assurance, reported the Baltimore Sun.

“Clearly BRAC and Fort Meade have been not just a buffer in the downturn, but have been a real mecca of economic growth,” Morris Segall, president of SPG Trend Advisors, an economic and capital markets research and consulting firm, told the Sun.
