Demolition of March AFB Hospital Heralds New Medical Campus
- April 4, 2011
An official ceremony marked the demolition of the hospital at the former March Air Force Base in Southern California last week, a final step before construction can begin on the multi-billion-dollar March LifeCare medical campus.
The 144-acre campus will include 6 million square feet of building space, including a 550-bed hospital, a senior continuum of more than 700 beds, medical office buildings, retail, ambulatory care facilities, and research and training space, along with a hotel, healing institute and a veterans’ facility. When it is completed, the development is projected to employ 7,200 medical-related personnel.
Willie Brown, former state Assembly speaker and San Francisco mayor, led a group of 17 speakers at the ceremony, which also featured a wrecking ball and a military fly-by, reports the Press-Enterprise.
