DOD Schools Activity Solicits Feedback on Transfer Issues
Defense Department officials are asking military families and community members for their opinion on the quality of DOD schools, including comments about the support provided relocating families and those coping with deployments.
The department will use the feedback to craft a new DOD Education Activity Community Strategic Plan, a document intended to guide the activity through 2016, reports American Forces Press Service.
Transfer issues are particularly important for military families as children switch schools an average of six to eight times over the course of a parent’s military career. Officials would like to minimize disruptions for students shifting between DOD and public schools.
For example, military students who take Japanese while living overseas may return to a public school without that offering. The education activity’s virtual courses, though, may be able to fill that gap for students, even if they’re enrolled in a public school, according to the story.
The department wants to hear from parents, students, principals, staff members, teachers, military leaders, students and community members who interact with the school system, such as child care or health care providers.
