Expanding Maxwell AFB’s Elementary School Makes the Grade for Families
The decision by officials at Maxwell Air Force Base to add the seventh and eighth grades to an on-base elementary school is proving to be a big hit for the families of personnel stationed at the Montgomery, Ala., installation.
A number of families have moved on base to take advantage of the newly named Maxwell AFB Elementary/Middle School, Principal Melissa Hayes told the Montgomery Advertiser. Hayes and other base officials stressed that the elementary school’s expansion is critical for the Air Force as it reflects the military’s commitment to education even as the Pentagon’s budget is coming under close scrutiny.
The change was prompted by an earlier visit to Maxwell by Clifford Stanley, undersecretary of defense for personnel and readiness. The families and students he met with asked for an on base school students could attend through high school.
