Florida Officials, Base Commanders Meet
- November 23, 2011
Florida Gov. Rick Scott and Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll met with 20 installation commanders last week to ensure state agencies and base commanders work together to forge continued growth and mission sustainment.
The commanders meetings, held quarterly, generally focus on four areas — encroachment/land use, transportation/infrastructure, energy and quality of life/family support. Specific issues that have been addressed at past commanders meeting include payday lending, spouse employment, magnet school enrollment, and compatible land use near military installations and training ranges.
“The governor and lieutenant governor understand the economic impact that the military provides to the state of Florida, and they work diligently to keep informed on developments for all of the military services in the state,” said Capt. Jeffrey Maclay, commanding officer of NAS Jacksonville, who hosted the meeting.
“The Florida Defense Task Force was established as a result of these quarterly meetings, to make recommendations to the governor to strengthen Florida’s defense industries,” he added, reported NAS Jacksonville Public Affairs.
