Officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Fort Sam Houston last month for the new headquarters for Installation Management Command (IMCOM), leaving only one major BRAC 2005 construction project yet to be completed at the post.

In total, the base closure round has proved a bonanza for San Antonio, resulting in the expenditure of $3.3 billion on 176 construction projects needed to accommodate the transformation of Fort Sam into a premier medical complex and the largest medical training campus in the world.

IMCOM’s 300,000-square-foot headquarters is just one of seven buildings the agency occupies on the post. And with about 1,500 mostly civilian employees, the command is one of the biggest organizations on the post, reported the San Antonio Express-News.

During the ceremony, IMCOM Commander Lt. Gen. Rick Lynch pointed out that the headquarters will trim energy consumption by 24 percent. “You’ve got to lead by example,” he said of the agency’s initiative to conserve resources and protect the environment.
