Hundreds Turn out to Plan Future of NAS Willow Grove
Close to 600 residents attended one of two planning sessions Friday to generate ideas for reusing Naval Air Station Willow Grove, located outside of Philadelphia.
Common themes that emerged from the charrette, hosted by planning consultant RKG Associates, included building a town center with mixed-use redevelopment, avoiding high-density housing or apartments that could add to area traffic and adding an adult retirement community for the area’s large population of aging residents, reported Patch.com. Participants favored an R&D and high-tech business park over big box stores to create jobs at the air station.
Residents from both sides of the question as to whether the facility’s airfield should be retained for commercial use voiced their opinions, although the sessions were not intended to act as a referendum on the issue.
