Judge’s Ruling Allows Hunters Point Redevelopment to Begin
A San Francisco judge has rejected an environmental challenge to the redevelopment of the former Hunters Point Naval Shipyard, meaning the project’s development team can begin transforming the site into a new neighborhood.
The ruling stated, however, that the environmental review was not sufficient for the Navy to go ahead with the early transfer of two parcels to the developers. The developers’ plan to complete the cleanup themselves and begin construction earlier now will be pushed back somewhat, reported the San Francisco Chronicle.
Kofi Bonner, president of Lennar Urban, which is partnering with the city on the project, said the ruling was “a great victory for the city and the residents of Bayview-Hunters Point,” according to the story.
