Limit on Pax River EUL Gains Local Business Support for Project
- May 31, 2011
The St. Mary’s County, Md., business community has reversed its opposition to a proposed enhanced use leasing (EUL) project at Naval Air Station Patuxent River after Navy officials ruled out the option of leasing space in the project to retail tenants.
Several groups had lined up against the project over concerns it would provide space for commercial uses that would compete with local businesses. Naval Facilities Engineering Command now is waiting for congressional approval before going ahead, reported TheBayNet.com.
BRAC concerns also played a role in securing businesses’ support. The project is critical for the air station, which already has a shortfall in space for workers, while two other Navy research and testing facilities — Point Mugu and China Lake — have a surplus of space, according to the story.
