Local Committee Meets to Protect Assets at Griffiss AFB

The Rome Advisory Board met to let the community know what is at stake as the Defense Department tries to slash $450 billion, and possibly much more, from its budget over the next 10 years.

Even though Griffiss Air Force Base, located in central New York, closed following the 1993 BRAC round, it remains the home to several defense facilities — a directorate of the Air Force Research laboratory, a Defense Finance and Accounting Service office and the Eastern Air Defense Sector.

One of the board’s goals already has been achieved. U.S. Rep. Richard Hanna (R), who represents what is now the Griffiss Business and Technology Park, recently formed the New York Congressional Working Group, a caucus of 14 members of Congress attempting to preserve the state’s military installations, reported
