Local Officials Back $104M Plan to Build Film Studio at Devens
- August 9, 2011
An Andover, Mass.-based firm’s proposal to build a $104 million movie studio at the former Fort Devens is gaining support from local and state officials.
MJM Development LLC expects to win approval from MassDevelopment by the end of the year to start construction on the first phase of a 600,000-square-foot complex, reported the Boston Globe. The initial, $30 million effort calls for four 18,000-square-foot sound stages that could be used for commercials or feature films. The project would take 10 years to complete.
The developer hopes to qualify for $5 million in tax incentives, a somewhat sensitive subject since solar panel manufacturer Evergreen Solar pulled out of Devens this winter after receiving $58 million in incentives.
