Local Officials Weigh in on Reuse Alternatives for NAS Willow Grove
- October 20, 2011
The Horsham LRA and the city council endorsed a walkable town center and a balance of other uses as key ingredients in the reuse plan for the former Naval Air Station Willow Grove located outside of Philadelphia, during a public meeting Wednesday.
The other elements will include housing, an office park, a hotel and conference center, open space and, possibly, an indoor regional sports complex, reported the Montgomery News. Other amenities, such as a bowling alley, movie theatre and ice skating rink, likely will be components of the final plan as well.
Still to be settled is whether the town center should be placed along a major corridor or in the middle of the 900-acre parcel.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the redevelopment authority’s planning consultant, RKG Associates, to gather feedback for the final reuse plan. That plan should be ready for review by the LRA next month.
