Mark Center to Attract Federal Funding, Moran Says
- March 15, 2011
Northern Virginia is slated to receive $20 million in funding from the Pentagon to pay for road improvements needed to accommodate increased traffic resulting from the opening of the Army’s Mark Center site in Alexandria, Va., Rep. Jim Moran (D) told the city council last week.
The money would fund short and medium-term fixes to prevent congestion from worsening, according to a Moran spokeswoman. The funds would come from a reallocation of previously appropriated construction funds that were not spent. The reprogramming requires the approval of Congress, reports the Washington Examiner.
About 6,400 civilian workers will move into the Mark Center by Sept. 15.
