Matrix Tapped to Prepare JLUS for Monterey-Area Installation
- September 18, 2011
Matrix Design Group last month was awarded a contract by San Luis Obispo County to prepare a joint land use study (JLUS) for the areas surrounding Camp Roberts, located in the Central Coast region of California.
The study is intended to reduce potential conflicts between Camp Roberts and surrounding areas while accommodating new growth and economic development, protecting public health and safety, providing for environmental sustainability and supporting the facility’s operational missions. The installation is the largest of the California National Guard’s three major training camps. On average, more than 1,100 soldiers train there each day.
The JLUS will be a cooperative land use planning effort conducted between local jurisdictions, Camp Roberts, state and federal agencies, and other affected stakeholders. The final report will include strategies and tools designed to ensure growth outside Camp Roberts remains compatible with the installation’s missions over the long-term. The study is expected to be completed by the fall of 2012.
