Minnesota Program Recognizes Communities’ Commitment to Military Family Support
- August 11, 2011
Later this month, Rosemount, Minn., will be designated a Yellow Ribbon City by a nonprofit encouraging Minnesota communities to organize volunteers to support service members and their families.
Beyond the Yellow Ribbon has put together a network of schools, churches, businesses and government agencies to support military families during a deployment and when personnel reintegrate into civilian life, reports the Rosemount Town Pages.
In addition to offering assistance to military families, the group has provided training to communities to improve their capacity for identifying outstanding needs and providing resources. Earlier, the group sponsored a session for educators and school counselors called “How we can support military families in our midst.”
For Rosemount, the decision to become a Yellow Ribbon City was easy, with the National Guard’s 34th Infantry Division headquartered in the city’s community center.
