Navy Comes ashore at Picatinny
Officials from the Army and Navy held a ribbon-cutting ceremony this week for the Navy’s Minor Caliber Gun Engineering Lab, marking the Navy’s return to Picatinny Arsenal in northern New Jersey after a 50-year absence.
Three separate Navy division moved to Picatinny as a result of the most recent round of base closures — gun systems from Louisville, Ky.; ammunition from Crane, Ind.; and packaging, handling, storage and transportation from Colts Neck, N.J.
About 200 Navy employees will work onsite, with 40 working offsite, reported the Daily Record. Until the 1960s, the Navy produced rocket fuel at the arsenal.
