Ohio Redistricting Could Hurt Support for Wright-Patterson AFB
The Dayton region of Ohio, which currently covers parts of three separate congressional districts, will overlap with only one under a new map of districts drawn up for the state, leading to a smaller delegation of federal lawmakers to advocate on behalf of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
The new map most directly affects two-term Rep. Steve Austria (R), whose 7th District was eliminated. As a result, Austria has decided not to run for another seat next term. He likely would have competed for the newly drawn 10th District seat against four-term Rep. Mike Turner (R), reported the Record Herald.
Dayton will miss Austria’s support as he now sits on the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Subcommittee.
