Defense Secretary Leon Panetta will outline a $525 billion fiscal 2013 budget request Thursday, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The request would represent a $6 billion decline from the current year’s baseline spending, and a $51 billion drop from a previous budget projection. The baseline allocation for FY 2012 is $22 billion below the administration’s original request.
Officials will preview a series of program cuts Thursday, including trimming the end strength of the active duty Army from 570,000 to 490,000 soldiers, and limiting spending on the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, according to the story.
