Port Sells Portion of NS Ingleside; Site to Support Offshore Drilling
The Port of Corpus Christi last week sold a 186-acre portion of the former Naval Station Ingleside for $66 million to a firm that plans to turn the site into an offshore logistics complex for the oil and gas industry.
In February, when the port first reached an agreement to sell the naval base property to Houston-based Canyon Supply and Logistics, the deal covered the entire 483-acre main base except for a 100-acre campus parcel. Canyon was forced to terminate the original agreement last month, however, and opted to purchase only half of the original property.
The firm still retains an option to buy the remaining 193 acres, reported the Caller-Times. It also retains an option to purchase 435 undeveloped acres from the port that are adjacent to the naval base. The port continues to seek a buyer for the campus parcel.
Canyon projects the offshore service complex, located along the Texas Coastal Bend, will create 2,000 to 3,000 jobs.
