Presidio of Monterey Honored for Public Transit Partnership
- April 21, 2011
The Presidio of Monterey, Calif., this week received a Secretary of the Army Superior Quality-of-Life award for partnering with a local agency to encourage the use of mass transit.
The Army garrison’s partnership with Monterey Salinas Transit reduced pollution and traffic congestion, alleviated parking constraints, expanded transportation options and created a safer, more cost-effective mode of transportation for the community. The Presidio of Monterey, one of three Army posts to earn a Superior Quality-of-Life award, was honored Tuesday along with the eight other award winners during the Association of the U.S. Army Installations Symposium in San Antonio.
The Best Practices award went to Army Community Services and the Human Resources Directorate of 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley for establishing the Resilient Spouse Academy. The academy has provided the northeastern Kansas community a cadre of trained spouses with the ability to identify soldiers and families at risk and help them find support.
