Schumer Urges Army to Approve Watervliet Arsenal EUL
Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) is pressing Army Secretary John McHugh to expedite the service’s approval of the development and financing plan for an enhanced use lease project at Watervliet Arsenal located outside of Albany.
The $350 million, high-tech development planned for a 60-acre site at the arsenal would create 350 permanent jobs, according to a written statement from Schumer. The Army selected the Arsenal Business and Technology Partnership in December 2008 to develop the project after Schumer asked the service to free up underused land at the facility for development.
The partnership’s plan includes construction of a new biomass steam and electric cogeneration facility, which would help the Army meet its goals to increase its energy security while reducing its reliance on fossil fuels, according to the statement.
