Senate Approves Authorization Bill
- December 15, 2011
The Senate approved the conference agreement for the fiscal 2012 defense authorization bill Thursday, paving the way for President Obama to sign the legislation, reported the Hill newspaper.
The House passed the bill Wednesday, after the White House press secretary said that changes made during conference negotiations to language regarding the detention of terrorism suspects were sufficient to mollify President Obama’s concerns.
The agreement authorizes $530 billion for the base budget of DOD, $23 billion less than the administration’s request.
