State Designates Ft. McPherson as Opportunity Zone
State designation of the former Fort McPherson as an opportunity zone is expected to boost the site’s prospects for successful redevelopment.
The McPherson Implementing Local Redevelopment Authority’s reuse plan for the 488-acre site in Atlanta calls for a technology park, open space and a Veterans Affairs clinic.
Any industry is eligible for the tax credits that come with creating jobs in the opportunity zone. A minimum of two jobs must be created to qualify for the credit, which amounts to $3,500 per worker for up to five years, or a total of $17,500 for every net new job created, reported the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
