    University of North Dakota officials signed a lease with the Air Force last week to build a training facility for unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), helping the school to create a UAS Center of Excellence.   • Pentagon Needs to Pay Its Share of Road Improvements, Report Says

    In light of the significant jump in traffic congestion expected at many of the installations growing as a result of BRAC 2005, the Pentagon should accept more responsibility for traffic problems it causes, according to a congressionally mandated study released this week.   • Navy Hands Over Airfield at Brunswick to LRA

    Months than three months before the Navy is scheduled to disestablish Naval Air Station Brunswick, local, state and federal officials on Monday celebrated the transfer of more than 715 acres of runways, hangars and other facilities at the installation to the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority.   • Cuts in Base Support to Boost Army’s Reliance on Partnering

    One approach the Army will pursue to cope with limits on funding for installation services is partnering with communities and base operating support contractors, Joe Calcara, the Army’s deputy assistant secretary for installations and housing, said at the outset of a super session at the ADC 2011 Winter Forum on how partnerships can advance installation efficiency. Calcara described the approach, termed “integrated sourcing,” as the latest evolution of strategic outsourcing.
