Defense Community Awards to Be Presented at Congressional Breakfast
New Award Category Recognizes Congressional Champions
ADC’s popular Defense Community Awards program will be a featured event in June’s first-ever Defense Communities National Summit. For the first time, the ADC awards will be presented at a special Congressional Breakfast on Capitol Hill. Members of Congress, DoD officials, and leaders from across the country will be invited to attend this special event to recognize leadership and excellence in supporting defense communities and the military.
“Moving ADC’s annual conference to D.C. provided an opportunity to rethink the awards program and find ways to share its messages with key decision makers,” said ADC CEO Tim Ford. “We refocused the award categories, simplified the process, and designed a special event that will bring together a high-level group to showcase our leaders, communities and redevelopment projects.
“And for the first time, we will have an opportunity to recognize Congressional leaders who are champions for defense community issues.”
The new Congressional Leadership Award joins the existing two awards ADC presents to leaders from communities and the military. A change this year is that multiple awards may be presented in each of the three leadership categories.
The second set of awards will recognize achievements of communities and DoD installations. This includes three award categories: Base Redevelopment Project of the Year, Defense Community/State of the Year, and DoD Installation of the Year. One award will be presented in each category.
The 2013 Defense Community Awards will be presented at the ADC Congressional Breakfast on June13 in the Cannon Caucus Room, one of Capitol Hill’s most impressive settings.
“We are raising the stature of the program and the event to create a unique opportunity to share the remarkable stories of people, places and projects that exemplify America’s defense communities,” Ford said.
