The Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce has formed the West Central Indiana Defense Network, a six-county network aiming to increase the share of defense contracts landed by companies in the Wabash Valley. The new group — made up of leaders in government, business and economic development — will focus on community and government engagement, education and research, and support for military personnel and veterans, reports CNHI News Indiana. Officials will market the region’s assets, including its transportation network, education and health care resources, workforce and the Indiana Air National Guard’s 181st Intelligence Wing; in addition, the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division is located nearby. … Separately, state and local officials unveiled a digital portal designed to bridge the gap between DOD’s technology requirements and Indiana’s defense industry marketplace. “[The platform] brings the best practices of today’s leading industry innovation clusters and digital marketplaces to disruptively scale the process of identification, production, deployment, operation and sustainment of optimized solutions to national defense requirements,” Danielle Chrysler, director of the Indiana Office of Defense Development, said at a press conference last week. Development of the database was funded through a $2.7 million grant from DOD’s Office of Economic Adjustment, reported WBIW.
