The Waynesville-St. Robert (Mo.) Regional Airport, a joint use airport located on Fort Leonard Wood, announced new daily commercial jet service to St. Louis on Contour Airlines beginning next month. Local officials have made securing additional passenger service at the airport a priority as a way to enhance the mission of Fort Leonard Wood and improve quality of life for the surrounding region. The civilian airport serves families attending military graduations as well as military members on official travel, according to a Sustainable Ozarks Partnership news release. … Kern County, Calif., will use a $900,000 grant from DOD to begin carrying out recommendations from a recent study of ways to diversify the economy of the eastern portion of the county from a reliance on Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake in Ridgecrest and Edwards AFB in California City. Funds will be distributed to multiple economic development organizations to hire personnel, as well as promote tourism, strengthen the STEM curriculum in public schools and consider new development opportunities, reports the Mojave Desert News.
