A fire that started at a Fort Carson, Colo., training range Friday and spread off post, destroying three homes and several vehicles, was almost completely extinguished by Monday. The fire burned about 3,300 acres, reported KKTV. Some residents criticized Fort Carson officials for not postponing live-fire training activities during fire-prone conditions, reported the Coloradoan. … The Georgia House last week passed a measure to establish an 18-member Georgia Joint Defense Commission, which would be responsible for advising state officials on military matters, issuing recommendations to promote the growth of the military’s presence in the state, strengthening the relationship between communities and neighboring installations, and serving as a task force to prepare for the possibility of base closures. The bill also would create an economic development grant program to assist communities with projects that promote installations, according to state Rep. Paulette Rakestraw. The state Senate passed the bill, SB 395, earlier.
