In Other News: Growth Plan Identifies Strategies for Handling New Mission at Eielson AFB

The Fairbanks North Star Borough last week published its final growth plan for accommodating 3,256 uniformed personnel, civilian employees and family members projected to accompany the arrival of two squadrons of F-35A Lightning IIs at Eielson AFB in 2020. The influx is expected to increase the borough’s population by 5.4 percent. The 454-page report includes recommendations for preparing for the impact of the growth on the region’s housing, education, transportation, utilities, planning and zoning, workforce development, health care and social services, public safety, quality of life and finances, reported the Daily News-Miner.
