The Army has named 15 cities as candidates to host the headquarters for its new Futures Command — Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, New York City, Philadelphia, Raleigh, N.C., San Diego, San Francisco or Seattle. “We want this headquarters to be located near leading academic and commercial institutions to harness the best talent possible in emerging technology and innovation,” Undersecretary Ryan McCarthy told the leadership of the House Armed Services Committee in an April 17 letter, reported Defense News. Officials previously said the command, dedicated to the service’s modernization priorities, would not be located on an Army post.
