The White House is adding a new energy division to its Office of Science and Technology Policy to focus on solutions to climate change, The Washington Post first reported. Sally Benson, currently a professor and researcher at Stanford University, will head the division.
“We have a 120-year-old energy system that was built over a long time period, and we’re talking about very quickly changing that to a new system,” Benson told the Post. “And this is a huge opportunity for American industry, for American workers, to lead.”
Among the responsibilities of the new division is to implement climate-related provisions of the recently enacted infrastructure legislation.
Costa Samaras, an associate professor at Carnegie Mellon University, has also joined OSTP to focus on energy.
