In a shuffle of subcommittee chairs on the Senate Appropriations Committee triggered by the resignation earlier this month of Sen. Thad Cochran (R-Miss.), Arkansas Sen. John Boozman (R) will take the gavel for the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs panel, the committee announced Tuesday. Boozman replaces Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) atop the milcon spending panel. Boozman had chaired the Homeland Security panel; Moran is moving to Commerce-Justice-Science.
“I’m pleased to continue my commitment to our nation’s veterans in this new role,” Boozman, who also serves on the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, said in a written statement. “I look forward to advancing policies that fulfill the promises made to our veterans and their families and prioritizing Department of Defense infrastructure investments to strengthen our national security,” he said. Arkansas has two active-duty installations — Little Rock AFB and Pine Bluff Arsenal.
The changes were ratified by the Senate Republican Conference and approved by the chamber. Alabama Sen. Richard Shelby (R) is replacing Cochran as chairman of the full committee as well as the Defense Subcommittee. Full rosters for all subcommittees can be found on the committee website. There were no changes to the Democrats’ slate of subcommittee ranking members, reported CQ.
