The Senate Budget Committee will produce a five-year budget resolution that avoids the traditional pie-in-the-sky balanced budget numbers, according to Chairman Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.). He told CQ the committee will produce “a realistic budget, not a gimmick budget” at a markup in late March.
“And then we’ve got to back that up with some budget process reforms that will make the whole system work better,” he said.
The House plans an early April markup on its own budget resolution, Budget Committee Chairman John Yarmuth (D-Ky.) said, telling CQ that having a budget resolution from both chambers could set things up for a deal to do away with spending caps that are set to automatically cut almost 10 percent from both defense and non-defense accounts.
