House Advances Six-Week CR

With government funding set to run out at midnight on Feb. 8, the House on Tuesday approved a continuing resolution (CR) running through March 23, which also includes a full-year, $659 billion defense spending bill for fiscal 2018. If the Senate completes a two-year deal raising the statutory spending caps shortly, that chamber likely would strip the defense spending bill from the stopgap and add the caps agreement, before sending it back to the House by Thursday. The Senate possibly may add other provisions as well to the CR, including a suspension of the nation’s debt limit and funding for disaster relief.
