Most Installations Ready for Influx of Civilians Using Base Services

All Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps installations now have the technology to allow veterans on-base to use services that generate revenue, such as commissaries, exchanges and recreation facilities, according to a DOD spokesperson, who added that about 40 Army installations also have the new technology, Military Times reported.

Beginning Jan. 1, access to these facilities will be granted to service-connected disabled veterans, Purple Heart recipients, former prisoners of war and some primary veteran caregivers.

Newly eligible customers will gain gate access by using their health card issued by the VA or other personal identification, the report said.
