Navy leaders are moving forward with plans to create a Senate-confirmed assistant secretary position to oversee information services. To allow for the position, the service would elimination the position of assistant secretary for energy, installations and environment.
“It’s probably as big as the three other key assets we manage as a department, those being people, property and money,” Undersecretary of the Navy Thomas Modly said last week, Federal News Network reported.
ADC has opposed past efforts to eliminate the energy, installations and environment position in each service to preserve the close relationship to the civilian community. A 2017 proposal to eliminate that position in all the services did not advance because of congressional opposition.
The timeline for creating the new position is unclear, Federal News Network reported.
