The central Georgia district of Rep. Austin Scott (R) briefly was altered to include a second Air Force base while the state’s General Assembly drew up new congressional districts. Scott’s 8th District already includes Robins AFB; the revision would have extended the district to include Moody AFB, at the bottom of the state, as well.
Rep. Jack Kingston (R) complained, however, arguing that the potential for another BRAC round calls for continuity in representation, reported macon.com. As a result, Moody will remain in Kingston’s 1st District.
The final map has been approved by the legislature, which has sent it to the governor for his signature.
