Texas Rep. John Carter (R) is set to replace Rep. Charlie Dent (R-Pa.) atop the House Military Construction-VA Appropriations Subcommittee, following his selection Tuesday by the House Republican Steering Committee. Dent resigned from Congress earlier this month. The full GOP Conference still needs to ratify the selection but that is typically a formality, reported CQ. Carter’s district in central Texas includes a portion of Fort Hood; the eight-term congressman had chaired the Homeland Security spending panel.
