Rep. Charlie Dent, Milcon Spending Chair, Resigning Shortly

The departure of Rep. Charlie Dent (R-Pa.) from Congress creates some uncertainty as to who will replace him atop the House Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Subcommittee.  Kevin Yoder (R-Kan.) appears to be next in line to take the gavel for the milcon panel. Tom Graves (R-Ga.) has more seniority on the full committee but plans to continue leading the Financial Services panel, reports CQ. An aide to Yoder confirmed his interest in moving from the Legislative Branch Subcommittee to the milcon panel. Jeff Fortenberry (R-Neb.), who serves as vice chairman of the milcon panel, also is interested in leading the subcommittee. A final decision will be up to the House GOP Steering Committee, with input from Appropriations Chairman Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-N.J.). Dent had previously announced his retirement from Congress after finishing out his term, but on Tuesday said he would step down in the coming weeks.
