Senate NDAA Includes Additional Disaster Recovery Funding for Florida, Nebraska Installations

July 1, 2019

The Senate’s approved version of the annual NDAA last Thursday includes significant repair and recovery funding for military installations that have suffered major extreme weather damage over the past year.
The bill, which authorizes a $750 billion fiscal 2020 defense topline, includes several new funding provisions that would aid installations in Nebraska toward repairing severe flooding damage, the Omaha World-Herald reported Friday.
This spring Offutt Air Force Base suffered extensive damage from major Missouri River flooding in March, as has On Base has reported.
According to Sen. Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, the Senate’s NDAA would authorize:

  • $340 million for disaster recovery at military installations such as Offutt Air Force Base.
  • $7.2 million intended to clean up and rebuild the Nebraska National Guard’s flooded Camp Ashland.
  • $247 million to determine the scope of rebuilding installations such as Offutt.

In addition funding targeted for Nebraska installation repairs, the Senate NDAA would also provide another $1.27 billion in construction funding for Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla., My Panhandle reported Friday.
Tyndall and its nearby communities, which were severely damaged by Hurricane Michael last fall, have worked through the challenging recovery process from the devastating Category 5 storm, as highlighted earlier this spring in an ADC video.
