Senate Support Exists to Curb War Powers, But Vote May Have to Wait

January 14, 2020

Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) said he has enough bipartisan support to pass a War Powers resolution to curb President Trump’s authorization to go to war with Iran.
Kaine said he has the support of Republican Sens. Susan Collins (Maine), Mike Lee (Utah), Rand Paul (Ky.) and Todd Young (Ind.). If all Democrats supported the resolution, it would have the simple majority support needed to pass, according to CQ.
But it may not get a vote before the Senate opens its impeachment trial next week, during which all other legislative business will be put on hold.
The House passed a deeply partisan resolution last week that would limit war with Iran, as On Base reported.
