Alabama Sen. Richard Shelby (R), who is widely expected to become chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee following Sen. Thad Cochran’s retirement April 1, is considering leading the defense appropriations subcommittee as well, reports CQ. “I have a great interest in defense. I’ve been on that committee a long time. I was on the Armed Services Committee for eight years before I came to appropriations,” Shelby said Tuesday. Cochran (R-Miss.) currently chairs both the full committee and the defense subcommittee.
