Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C., has been working through its Environmental Restoration Program to conduct investigations and clean up a 1953-1977 former fortified beach assault training area from explosive hazards and potential contaminants. The program has been partnering with the Navy, the North Carolina Environmental Department and the EPA to conduct the cleanup, according to the Camp Lejeune Globe.
