A 25-person local leadership team from Albany, Ga., visited Washington, D.C., this summer to meet with the Georgia congressional delegation and senior Marine Corps officials, the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce reports. The visit, the largest in the 15-year history of the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce’s Washington, D.C., Fly In, featured discussions on the recently passed disaster recovery funding; Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany and its contributions to national defense; the importance of local transportation infrastructure; rural health care delivery and affordability; and opportunities to close skills gaps through specialized training…
The Army Corps of Engineers expected to award contracts last week to begin repairs to levees built to protect Offutt Air Force Base, Neb., which suffered severe damage from by severe Missouri River flooding in March, the Omaha World-Herald reports. If the contracts are awarded as planned, work should begin in mid-August and be completed two to three months later, according to Matt Krajewski, readiness branch chief for the Omaha district of the corps…
The 70th annual Seattle Fleet Week hosted the guided-missile cruiser USS Mobile Bay, guided-missile destroyer USS Spruance, and the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Active with a kick-off parade of ships featuring the vessels in Elliott Bay, Wash., Navy Region Northwest Public Affairs reported. Seafair 2019, which will again feature the Navy’s Blue Angels, is an annual celebration of the sea services and provides an opportunity for Seattle residents and visitors to meet sailors and Coast Guardsmen, and learn more about the latest capabilities of today’s maritime services. During the week sailors participate in community relations projects, as well as host ship tours and interact with residents, KING5 News reported.
